By India Today Sports DeskTokyo Olympics gold-medallist Neeraj Chopra is set to return to action in the upcoming Diamond League, which is set to get underway on June 30. The javelin thrower will return after recovering from a muscle strain.

The organisers of the Diamond League included Chopra’s name included Chopra’s name in the list of players who will be taking part in the javelin throw event.

Jeswin Aldrin and Sreeshankar are the other top Indian athletes who will be playing their trade in the tournament. They are included in the list of long jumpers.

“In the javelin, the Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will be challenged by the Czech Jakub Vadlejch and German Julian Weber,” the official website of the competition was quoted as saying .

Back in May, Chopra had said on Twitter that he had sustained a muscle strain while training. Thereafter, he had pulled out of the FBK Games in the Netherlands and the Paavo Nurmi meet in Finland as a part of a precautionary measure.

The 25-year-old also didn’t take part in the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Apart from the Diamond League, Chopra is also expected to take part in the Golden Spike Ostrava in the Czech Republic on June 27.

Back in May, Chopra won the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 88.67m, making a brilliant start to the season.

The World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the Asian Games are the other major events where Chopra can participate.

Chopra etched his name in the books of history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual Olympic medal in athletics during the Tokyo Olympics.
