Kyle Mayers was the next to fall before Marcus Stoinis provided some stability to the innings. Krunal’s wicket triggered a collapse for LSG and Madhwal ran through the batting order.

The Uttarakhand pacer picked up Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran in successive deliveries in the same over. Madhwal then got the wickets of Ravi Bishnoi and Mohsin Khan to put the icing on the cake for MI and end up with record-breaking figures as he became the first bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in the knockout stage of a franchise-based T20 tournament.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Madhwal said that he was waiting for the opportunity. The pacer said he did his engineering and engineers have a tendency to learn early.

Madhwal said he was proud of his performance and would try to be better in the coming games as well. When asked if he had filled the shoes of Jasprit Bumrah for MI, the 29-year-old said that the Indian pacer has his own place and he was just trying to play his role.

Madhwal said that the wicket of Pooran was the best one for him in the spell.

I was just practising, and waiting for this opportunity. I did my engineering, and played tennis-ball cricket since it was my passion. Engineers have a tendency to learn early! I just practice, and that is what we execute. I’m proud of myself, but I’ll try to be better. Bumrah bhai has his own place, and I’m just trying to play role. Nicholas Pooran was the best wicket. Everyone at home believes I’m working hard.”
