Legendary India player and former MI captain Sachin Tendulkar lauded Gill and cheekily tweeted that he played a great inning for MI. “Cameron Green and Shubman Gill batted well for Mumbai Indians. Amazing innings by Virat Kohli too to score back-to-back 100s. They all had their methods and were in a class of their own. So happy to see MI in the playoffs. Go Mumbai,” Sachin wrote on Twitter.

Gill’s innings was sensational on a pitch where other batters took their time to frame innings. RCB pushed GT with back-to-back wickets in the final 6 overs of the game, but a calm, level-headed Shubman Gill pulled off the 198-run chase with five balls remaining. Mumbai qualified for the final play-offs spot with 16 points to their name from 14 matches.

They will now face Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator of the IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. MI would gain strength from the fact that this is their first IPL play-off since winning the title in 2020. The MI batting has started to click finally at the end of the season. On Sunday, Cameron Green ran the show with a tremendous century off 47 balls, the fastest by an MI player in the IPL. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav also did well in the game. MI will play their match vs LSG on Wednesday, 24 May.
