OnePlus 12 could feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a periscope camera

It is being said that this 5G phone from OnePlus will get a massive camera upgrade. It will feature Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip, which is not surprising because OnePlus 12 will be the company’s top-end smartphone.

Tipster Digital Chat Station is claiming that OnePlus is testing a periscope camera on “SM8650” model, which will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This chipset is yet to be unveiled by the company and will likely be announced later this year. The cited source hasn’t explicitly mentioned the name of the OnePlus phone, but reports claim that this could be the OnePlus 12 because of the flagship chip and the company would likely offer a periscope camera with its ultra-high-end flagship model.

Tipster Max Jambor has also previously claimed that the Chinese company has been testing periscope cameras for a long time now. This is something that will help offer better zoom capabilities. One will find the same on expensive phones such as Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Google Pixel 7 Pro with support for 10x optical zoom and 5x optical zoom, respectively. The rest of the details are under wraps.

The OnePlus 12 is expected to launch early next year if we go by previous launches. The 5G phone is expected to feature a 5,000mAh battery, similar to this year’s version. The company will likely offer support for fast charging speeds, which is something that OnePlus always does with its flagship devices. To recall, the OnePlus 11 has support for 100W fast charging tech.

The company will likely ship a charger in the retail box along with the 5G phone. So far, the brands like Samsung, Apple, and others have stopped bundling a charger and OnePlus is among the few who haven’t dropped adapter from the box. As of now, there is no leak about the launch timeline of the next flagship phone from OnePlus.

The rumour mill does claim that the OnePlus Nord 3 smartphone is on the way and will launch in the coming weeks. It could make its debut next month in June. The device is expected to be priced under Rs 30,000 segment. It is tipped to pack MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 5G SoC under the hood and a 5,000mAh battery too. It might offer support for 80W fast charging tech.
