The platform’s popularity as well as viewership skyrocketed as it started streaming IPL 2023. However, JioCinema will not remain free for long as the platform plans to charge users for its content and will introduce paid plans soon. The IPL matches, however, will remain free for users to watch.

Jio’s plan to introduce paid plans is an attempt to compete against other major OTT players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+Hotstar by adding over 100 new movies and web series to its platform.

Jyoti Deshpande, the media and content business President at Jio, said in an interview with Bloomberg that the platform plans to add over 100 films and TV series to its offerings in a bid to expand its offerings and take on the competition.

She also revealed that Jio plans to keep tariffs ‘simple for viewers’ to make it accessible for all.

About Jio’s paid plans

While the final tarrif of the plans has not been revealed by the company yet, a Reddit user spotted a test website that reveals the premium subscription plans.

The photo of this test website was being shared by Reddit users a while back and it revealed that JioCinema will introduce a three-tier subscription plan containing Daily, Gold and Platinum plans.

Divulging further possible details of the plans, the website stated that the Daily Delight plan, as its name suggests, will be priced for as low as Rs 29. It will be a one-day plan and a special deal price will even make it available for as low as Rs 2. Users will get to watch content on two devices at once with this plan.

Talking about the Gold Standard plan, it will be priced at a relatively more expensive bracket and will cost Rs 299. However, initially it will be priced at Rs 99. While opting for this plan, users will be able to stream content on two devices and the plan will last for three months.

The most expensive plan from the lot will be the Platinum Power plan. It will cost Rs 1,199 but will initially be offered at a discount. Hence, users will be able to access it for Rs 599 only. The plan will offer premium content for a year and will also come with an ad-free experience.

Hotstar shows coming to JioCinema

Talking about JioCinema’s expansion of its streaming library, recent reports revealed that users will soon get to experience Hotstar shows on the OTT platform.

A Reuters report stated that Viacom18 has made a deal with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content to JioCinema. This partnership will allow JioCinema to offer HBO content and Warner Bros shows such as Game of Thrones, Succession, and the upcoming Harry Potter series. Previously, HBO content was available on Disney+ Hotstar app, but their partnership ended on March 31.

A source told Reuters, “It’s a deep exclusive arrangement which will make JioCinema the house of Warner, HBO in India.”
