Tata’s flagship electric car – the Nexon EV Max, has received the Dark treatment and some extra features to go along with the dark look.

Tata Nexon EV Max Dark

By Anagh BhaskarTata has been pushing out special editions of its models for some time now, and there is none more popular than the Dark edition. Available on the Safari, Harrier, Nexon and the Nexon EV Prime, the Dark edition has been a customer favourite. However, Tata had held back on offering the Dark edition on the Nexon EV Max, after the EV lineup was split into the Prime and the Max, with only the former getting the Dark edition. Now, however, the Tata Nexon EV Max Dark is here, and some aspects make this particular Dark different from the Nexon EV Prime Dark.

The Nexon EV Max Dark merges both the EV and the Dark cosmetic cues, which includes the electric blue highlights and the blacked out panels such as the faux grille and the bumpers.

Tata Nexon EV Max Dark – exterior

While Tata offers Dark editions on the Harrier, Safari and Nexon, each uses a slightly different shade of black. The Nexon EV Max Dark comes with the Midnight Black exterior shade, giving it a proper dark look. The 16-inch alloys sport a slightly different look compared to those found on the Prime and come finished in Charcoal grey, giving the SUV a bit of contrasting colours. You can spot the Dark edition badging on the fenders, while the Nexon lettering on the tailgate too is darkened.

To make the Nexon EV Max Dark stand out in comparison to the Nexon EV Prime Dark, the designers have given this SUV different alloy wheels.

Of course to mark its distinction as a car which runs on electricity, Tata has added the signature electric blue accents around the car. This can be seen on the lower grille with the tri-arrow motifs, the foglamp surrounds, and the EV badging. Overall, the Nexon EV Max Dark does the job just right, giving the customer a cosmetic option that is different to other cars on the road, while not being overtly loud in doing so.

The Nexon EV Max Dark continues to offer the same minimalist yet unique look that has made Tata’s Dark edition family sought after.

Tata Nexon EV Max Dark – interior

Similar to the exterior, the cabin too follows the mixed design language of using the dark theme in tandem with the EV specific design cues, such as the electric blue highlights on the aircon vents.

Similar to the other Dark models from the brand, the cabin too has been given a dark makeover. The piano black dashboard gets the signature tri-arrow pattern while the dark seats feature tri-arrow perforations. The electric blue colour which is the Nexon EV’s theme shade, is also present throughout the cabin, used in the stitching present on the seats and the steering.

The single key feature that make the Nexon EV Max Dark an upgrade over the non-dark variant is this – the 10.25-inch infotainment display, lifted from the new Harrier and Safari.

The big update for the SUV is the addition of the new 10.25-inch infotainment display, making this the only Nexon in both the conventionally powered and the EV lineup to get the larger display. The display comes with a new UI, much smoother than the older one it replaces. To use the display’s higher resolution, Tata has also added a better-resolution reverse camera. The infotainment display also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling seamless smartphone mirroring.

Similar to other Dark edition models, the Nexon EV Max Dark too features a completely blacked out cabin. The front seat headrests come with Dark embossed.

Along with the new display, the audio system has also been tweaked slightly to offer better bass and sharper notes. Tata is expected to add the larger infotainment display to the regular Nexon models soon, just as it did with the Safari and the Harrier. The infotainment system also comes with updated voice commands, available in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi.

Tata Nexon EV Max Dark – features

In terms of features, the Nexon EV Max Dark comes with a long list including the wireless smartphone charger, rotary drive selector with display and front ventilated seats.

In terms of features, the Nexon EV Max Dark benefits from the whole suite that is available in the non-Dark EV Max. This means that you get a sunroof, ventilated seats for the front row, air purifier, wireless smartphone charger, cruise control, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cooled glovebox, making the Nexon EV Max Dark a pretty feature-laden SUV. And of course, the Dark edition benefits from the larger and improved infotainment display.
